IC INFO

Name: Ren Amamiya
Age: 17 (16 at canon start, a year passes throughout the game)
Canon: Persona 5
Character History: Wiki

Personality: As the Trickster, there's no clear-cut view of *who* Ren is. The quiet and shaggy looking student that no one talks to, the charming problem solver that can't keep his nose out of the business of others, the loving friend, the Cheshire grinning thief, the devil himself. All of these and uncountable 'others' make up a young man that can wear so many masks. But that doesn't mean anyone mask is the 'true' mask, or that any of them are lies either. We all have different selves we show to different people: you don't talk to your mother the same way you talk to your girlfriend after all. Ren is just very skilled at adjusting himself to the person he's with, while still keeping true to the core of 'who' he is.

And what is that core? A powerful sense of what's *right*. Not correct, as Ren often makes mistakes and ends up charging down a path to ruin. But what is **right** is unarguable to him. Before he was a Thief or had any power at all, that was there. It's what urged him to help that woman on the street, even when it was dangerous and worse: when it was 'rude' and 'not his problem' when it was 'adult business'. Helping her was incorrect when it came to his long-term happiness- he assumedly had a stable life in his hometown. A family, friends, hope for the future. And going against Shido not only tore all of those away, but replaced them with distrust, people telling him he was a liar and fool, and being left alone and heartbroken in a dirty attic. A young man, a *child* with no support system left and the point that he was *wrong* pounded into his head. Most would quickly begin to believe it, if just from the despair. By society's standard, he was in the wrong. But when approached by Arsene, there is no hesitation in him: what he did was right, and what others think, or even his own safety and happiness can be damned. To do otherwise was anathema.

But when given the chance to enforce his sense of what was Right onto the world, Ren turned away. After seeing the ego and pride of the Phantom Thieves when they went after Okumura almost turn them into the monsters they were fighting he was able to pull back. Still fight for what was true and good in humanity, but not to impose it. To do it to save others, not for vengeance. Because unlike Shido and Akechi, his desires were born out of a real sense of kindness and empathy first. He didn't save that woman because Shido was committing a crime. He did it because she was *scared* and in danger. In his deepest heart, Ren is a good person, but just as prone to self-centered thinking as anyone else.
His innate kindness and inability to turn away from those in trouble is the one thing those around him comment on the most (along with his quietness and sense of humor, of course). Fulfilling the Phan-site requests, even when in hiding, putting himself in the way of a Confidant and harm *multiple* times, and accidentally exposing his identity as a Phantom Thief to almost all his Confidants because he can't NOT use his powers to save them, even turning himself in to the police so his friends can remain free... he certainly listens to his heart way more than his common sense. Still, he's not needlessly reckless. Ren is, if nothing else, amazingly perceptive. Not only can he read people well, he's always observing the world around him. He's quiet, usually not starting conversations or adding much to them outside a few short observations, encouragement, or the odd joke or two. But he is always listening, watching, and taking it all in... even if it doesn't usually look like it, what with him usually looking about to nap, staring out a window or playing with his phone.

Even though he looks calm and distracted, deep down Ren is... while not *stupidly* reckless, very very cocky. As Joker he can finally unleash his love of flash and dramatics. Still not one for big speeches, he's more than happy to show off with actions. Flips, come at me gestures and a smug almost evil grin are all trademarks of Joker. And it's this smugness that can get him in trouble- he likes to think of himself as the slickest motherfucker in the room at all times, and when that turns out not to be the case it can completely throw him off. While as Ren he can be more soft-spoken and careful, if he is in full Joker 'mode' he is fearless... and underestimates the dangers around him. It could very easily get him killed, or at least start a fight or two. Still, that kind of devious attitude can be very charming as well to certain people- and he knows how to play it up in spades. It's this mix of wild charm and quiet kindness that makes him who he is, and a natural core that others gravitate towards.
